How do I apply to attend?

Please contact your school counselor and/or local American Legion Post/ Auxillary Unit.

What if there is no unit/post near me, or they cannot sponsor me?

Please email our chairman/director at ctgirlsstate@gmail.com. We have a limited number of additional sponsorships available.

Once selected by a unit, what are the next steps?

Once our office receives the completed form, students will receive an email with the next steps.

This will include medical forms, student surveys, and more.

What if I need to cancel my attendance?
-
Please email our chairman/director at ctgirlsstate@gmail.com.

We ask that you cancel at least 10 days before the start of the program. You must inform us by 4 pm on Wednesday, June 18th, 2025.

You must pay half the sponsorship fee if you do not cancel by the specified time. The required reimbursement cost is $225.

We understand emergencies occur. Please contact us if there are any emergencies.

PROGRAM SPECIFICS

What are the lodging arrangements?
-
During the week, we will stay in college dorms. Everyone will share a room/suite with one or more roommates. Each suite will have its own bathroom area.

What is the food service like?
-
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are provided with menu items during the week. A hot bar with an entree and vegetables is available, and a salad bar and deli are for sandwiches.

If you have dietary restrictions, please let our Chairman/Director know at least ten days before the start of the program.

How much free time is there?
-
The schedule at Laurel Girls State is full, and everyone is kept busy. During the day, there will be around two hours of recreation time. There will be opportunities for sports, crafts, and general free time.

May I leave campus during the week?

No. Delegates must stay on campus during the entire week. Girls State experience is a residential program, and each delegate agrees to stay in residence at the program for the entire session.

May I bring my cell phone?
-
Cell phones are permitted and may be used during free time. Cell phone usage cannot interfere with the delegate’s participation in ALA Girls State activities and cannot cause distraction or disruption of scheduled activities, including guest speakers.

Where can I find a packing list?

The packing list will be emailed and found on our website under forms.

Is there a dress code?

Yes, the dress code can be found on the forms tab on our website.

Should I bring cash?
-
Excessive cash is not required. We will have a store that sells various snacks, beverages, and merchandise. The store accepts only cash and Venmo.
