Laurel Girls State - A Commitment to the Future

An American Legion Auxiliary Program

SAMSUNG SCHOLARSHIP

The Samsung Group of Korea has presented the American Legion with a large endowment with which to provide educational scholarships for direct descendants of U.S. wartime veterans, with additional consideration being given to descendants of Korean War veterans.

Upon completion of the week at Laurel Girls State, young women meeting this requirement are eligible for the Samsung Scholarship, and are encouraged to apply. One winner from each state having a Girls State program will be granted a $1,000 scholarship. Additionally, each state winner automatically becomes eligible, along with each state's Boys' State winner, for one of 10-12 national scholarships, which could be worth up to $20,000.

Along with the completed application, a photocopy of the veteran's Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty (Form DD-214) is required. Copies of these forms may be obtained through the veteran's local town hall, town clerk's office, or state Veteran's Department.

Please take the time to fill out the application accurately. Too often, qualified applicants are disqualified simply because their applications are incomplete or incorrectly filled out. PLEASE READ AND FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS CAREFULLY!

A copy of the Samsung Scholarship application is available for download as an Adobe Acrobat PDF file. Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to edit, view and print this file, and may be obtained from Adobe Acrobat.

Please bring completed application materials with you to Registration on Thursday, June 28th.
